International dialing codes
To call another country: dial your exit code (011 from the US and Canada, 00 from most other countries), then the country code, then the number without its leading 0. From a mobile, just press + instead of the exit code. Every country page shows the local time there too, so you don't call at 3 a.m.
Questions people ask
What is a country code?
A country code is the 1 to 3 digits you dial before a phone number to reach that country, such as +44 for the United Kingdom or +91 for India. The codes are assigned by the International Telecommunication Union.
What does the + mean in a phone number?
The + stands for your exit code, the digits that tell your phone company the call is international. On a mobile you can press + directly; on a landline you replace it with the exit code, such as 011 from the US or 00 from most of the world.
What is a trunk prefix?
Many countries start domestic numbers with a 0 (or 8, 06 or 1). This trunk prefix is only for calls inside the country, so you leave it out after the country code.
