Dates come from the official time zone database (tzdata 2026e). Southern Hemisphere countries end daylight saving in April and start it again in September or October.

How the change works

Spring forward: at 2:00 AM clocks jump to 3:00 AM, so you lose an hour of sleep. Fall back: at 2:00 AM clocks go back to 1:00 AM, and you get the hour back. In the EU and UK the change happens at 1:00 AM UTC everywhere at once.

Places that don't use daylight saving time

Most of the world doesn't. That includes almost all of Asia and Africa, Russia (since 2014), Mexico (since 2022), Brazil (since 2019), Argentina, India, China, Japan, and in the US, Hawaii and most of Arizona. Countries near the equator gain little from it, since day length barely changes.

Questions people ask

When does daylight saving time end in 2026?

In the US and Canada it ends on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at 2:00 AM local time, when clocks go back one hour to 1:00 AM. In the UK and EU it ends on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at 1:00 AM UTC (2:00 AM in the UK, 3:00 AM in most of the EU).

When does daylight saving time start in 2027?

In the US and Canada, on Sunday, March 14, 2027 at 2:00 AM. In the UK and EU, on Sunday, March 28, 2027.

Do I need to change my clocks?

Phones, computers and most smart devices change automatically. Wall clocks, ovens, microwaves and car clocks usually need changing by hand.

Is Canada stopping daylight saving time?

Much of western and central Canada already has. Saskatchewan and Yukon stopped long ago, and in 2026 British Columbia, Alberta, the Northwest Territories and Manitoba moved to permanent time, so they won't fall back on November 1, 2026. British Columbia stays on UTC−7, Alberta and the NWT on UTC−6, and Manitoba on UTC−5. Ontario, Quebec, Atlantic Canada and Newfoundland still change their clocks.

Which US states don't use daylight saving time?

Hawaii and most of Arizona stay on standard time all year (the Navajo Nation in Arizona does change). So do Puerto Rico, Guam, the US Virgin Islands and American Samoa.

Does “fall back” mean I get an extra hour?

Yes. When clocks go back in autumn, 1:00 AM to 2:00 AM happens twice, so that night is 25 hours long. In spring, 2:00 AM to 3:00 AM is skipped and the night is 23 hours.
