Type a city and press Enter. If several places share the name, pick the one you mean. Distances use the mean Earth radius (6,371 km), which is within about 0.5% of the exact ellipsoid distance.

    Questions people ask

How is the distance worked out?

It is the great-circle distance: the shortest path over the curved surface of the Earth, the route a plane follows when winds and air traffic allow. Driving distances are longer.

Why do flight routes look curved on a map?

Flat maps stretch the globe, so the shortest route over a sphere appears as a curve, especially at high latitudes. That is why flights from the US to Asia pass over Alaska.

How accurate is the flight time?

It assumes an average speed of about 830 km/h plus 30 minutes for take-off and landing. Real schedules vary with winds, routing and aircraft.
