Questions people ask
Where is it 5 o'clock right now?
The live list above shows every major city where it's between 5:00 and 5:59 p.m. at this moment. Because the world has time zones on the half hour and quarter hour too, there's almost always somewhere it's 5 o'clock.
Is it really always 5 o'clock somewhere?
Almost. With 24 main time zones it's the 5 p.m. hour somewhere about every hour of the day. A few hours of the day may only catch remote islands or none at all, because some time zones have very few people.
Where does the saying "it's 5 o'clock somewhere" come from?
It's an old American joke for having a drink before the workday ends: even if it's not quitting time here, it's 5 p.m. somewhere in the world. It became famous with the 2003 country hit "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere" by Alan Jackson and Jimmy Buffett.
Is it 5 o'clock yet?
The box at the top checks your own clock: it tells you whether it's 5 p.m. yet where you are, and counts down the minutes if not.
