Clock tab

Keep this page open in a tab and the time shows in the tab itself: in the title and as a small live clock icon. Pin the tab (right-click it and choose Pin) and you can see the time from any other tab, without a widget or an extension.

How to keep a clock in a browser tab

  1. Open this page.
  2. Right-click its tab and choose Pin (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Brave and Opera all have it). The tab shrinks to just its icon and stays at the left.
  3. The icon is a live analog clock, and hovering over the tab shows the exact time. Unpinned, the tab title shows the time in full.

Browsers slow down timers in background tabs to save battery, so the title may update every few seconds instead of every second while you're in another tab. It is always corrected the moment you look, and the time is checked against an internet time server, so it stays right even if your computer's clock drifts.

Other ways to keep the time in view

The floating clock stays on top of every other window, the full screen clock fills a spare monitor, and the online clock has themes, alarms and world clocks.

Questions people ask

How do I show a clock in my browser tab?

Open the clock tab page and pin the tab. The tab title and icon show the current time and keep updating.

Can I see seconds in the tab?

Yes. Seconds are on by default; untick "Seconds in the tab" for a calmer title.

Why does the tab update slowly sometimes?

Browsers slow timers in background tabs to save power. The time is corrected as soon as the tab is in view again.

Does it work on a phone?

Phones don't show tab titles the same way, so on mobile use the full screen or floating clock instead.
