The knuckle trick
Make two fists and count the months across your knuckles and the gaps between them. Every month on a knuckle has 31 days; every month in a gap has 30, except February. July and August both land on knuckles, one at the end of each hand.
A rhyme works too: "Thirty days hath September, April, June and November. All the rest have thirty-one, except February alone…"
