Monthly prayer timetable

The five daily prayers
- Fajr: dawn, when the first light appears, until sunrise.
- Dhuhr: just after midday, when the sun passes its highest point.
- Asr: afternoon, when an object's shadow reaches its length (or twice its length in the Hanafi school) plus its noon shadow.
- Maghrib: just after sunset.
- Isha: night, when twilight has disappeared.
Fajr and Isha depend on how dark the sky must be, which is why calculation methods differ: each uses a different sun angle below the horizon. Times are calculated with the open-source Adhan library.

Questions people ask
How are prayer times calculated?
From the position of the sun at your location: Fajr and Isha by the sun's angle below the horizon at dawn and nightfall, Dhuhr at solar noon, Asr by shadow length, and Maghrib at sunset. Different organizations use different angles, so you can pick the method used in your community.
Which calculation method should I use?
Use the one your local mosque or country follows. By default we choose it from your time zone: for example Umm al-Qura in Saudi Arabia, ISNA in North America, Karachi in Pakistan and India, and Diyanet in Turkey.
What is the difference between Shafi and Hanafi Asr?
In the Hanafi school, Asr begins when an object's shadow is twice its length (plus its noon shadow); in the other schools, when it equals its length. Hanafi Asr is therefore later, often by 45 minutes to an hour.
