PTO calculator: vacation time accrual

Work out how much paid time off you earn each paycheck and what your balance will be by a date, whether your PTO is a yearly allowance or earned per hour worked.

How PTO accrual works

With a yearly allowance, your PTO is usually spread evenly over your paychecks: 15 days a year at 8 hours a day is 120 hours, or about 4.62 hours per paycheck if you're paid every two weeks. With hourly accrual you earn a set amount for every hour you work. California's paid sick leave law, for example, requires at least one hour for every 30 hours worked. Many employers cap how much you can carry over, so add your maximum if you have one.

Your employee handbook or pay stub has the exact rules. To track hours worked, use the time card calculator.
