What is your time worth?
Enter what you are paid and how much you work to see what you earn per hour, per minute and per second. Then see what any purchase costs in hours of your working time, and how much time and money your commute takes a year.
How the numbers are worked out
Your yearly pay is divided by the hours you work in a year: hours a week times paid weeks. A $60,000 salary at 40 hours a week for 52 weeks is 2,080 hours, so $28.85 an hour, 48 cents a minute and just under a cent every second. If you take unpaid weeks off, lower the paid weeks; if you only want take-home pay, enter the share you keep after tax. Everything is calculated in your browser.
Why think about time as money?
Seeing prices in hours of work is a simple way to make spending decisions feel real: a $1,000 phone at $28.85 an hour is about 35 hours, nearly a full working week. It also works the other way: if a service saves you two hours and costs less than two hours of your pay, it may be worth it. The same applies to commuting: 30 minutes each way, five days a week, adds up to about 260 hours a year, more than six working weeks.
Track the hours themselves with the clock in and out calculator or a stopwatch, and count working days with the business days calculator.
